World Bank Data Used by the Atlas
World Development Indicators supply the GDP baseline, population, undernourishment, and poverty values used by the 2026 atlas.
| Field | Indicator | Role |
|---|---|---|
| GDP per capita | NY.GDP.PCAP.CD | G₀ baseline and regression outcome |
| Population | SP.POP.TOTL | Regression weight and national aggregation |
| Undernourishment | SN.ITK.DEFC.ZS | Lever 9 input |
| Extreme poverty | SI.POV.DDAY | Lever 9 input |
Download and rebuild
Each indicator can be downloaded as CSV, XML, or Excel from the World Bank Data portal. The build pipeline uses the public World Bank API through wbgapi and stores processed snapshots under data/processed/. Run python3 -m src.fetch_wb for a small connectivity check, then the canonical atlas build command.
Vintage and missingness: “2026 baseline” means the freshest published value available when the atlas was built, not that every observation was measured in 2026. Missing undernourishment or poverty is conservatively scored as lever 9 absent. Current-US$ GDP is appropriate for the atlas's current-dollar totals but includes exchange-rate and price-level movement.
