Gas and civilian-casualty map data

The Gas Map and Civilian Casualties map are source-dated views with different measurements. Fuel prices are a one-date market snapshot. Civilian casualties are event records selected by an inclusive year range. Neither layer is a live feed or a complete census.

Every price is converted for display to indicative U.S. dollars per U.S. gallon. Tower height uses one fixed global linear scale from $0 to a $10-per-gallon ceiling: $5 is exactly half the height of $10 in every region and fuel selection. Values above $10 meet the ceiling without changing the scale, while their exact values remain in the inspector and payload. The payload also retains original currency and unit. Most exchange rates use the European Central Bank reference rates; Taiwan uses the Central Bank of the Republic of China rate.

Civilian Casualties sources

The primary layer uses UCDP Georeferenced Event Dataset 26.1 deaths_civilians values for 1989โ€“2025 and the loaded UCDP candidate-event releases through August 2026. Values are summed by the country where UCDP locates the event and only within the selected inclusive year range. The default range is the latest ten calendar years, currently 2017โ€“2026. Independent toggles place IHME GBD 2023 all-cause mortality and long-run life expectancy beside casualties. The latter cites Riley's peer-reviewed historical estimates, HMD, and UN WPP 2024. Health layers use only actual observations inside the selected interval and never extrapolate them.

Two Gaza context towers are visually separate, are labelled as outside UCDP, and are never added to the UCDP world total: the UN OCHA Reported Impact Snapshot citing Gaza Ministry of Health and Action on Armed Violence's English-language-media explosive-violence monitor. They measure different populations and cannot be added or treated as equivalent civilian-death estimates.

Reference geometry

Natural Earth supplies country outlines. U.S. state and Japanese prefecture reference geometry and GeoNames location coordinates support subnational placement. Geometry is a display reference and does not adjudicate borders.
