Recorded Civilian Deaths
Reported civilian deaths in UCDP georeferenced events, summed by the country where the event was coded. This is not a complete ledger of every civilian killed in war. Click a nation to turn the map over.
Read the boundary
Ochre-red towers show UCDP GED deaths_civilians totaled by event country inside the selected inclusive year range. Navy mortality and cyan life-expectancy towers show the latest exact source year inside that range; neither is extrapolated. Each measure is independently normalized and adjacent towers are not additive. Dense and small-territory groups use 50% opacity so overlapping columns remain legible.
Gaza, not in the datasets
Two blue towers sit on the Gaza Strip and are not part of UCDP GED. They are not added to the world total. The taller one is UN OCHA citing Gaza Ministry of Health reported fatalities (all recorded deaths, 2 September 2026). Beside it is AOAV’s independent count of civilians reported killed by explosive weapons in English-language media (17 September 2026), a lower-bound civilian figure.
