Maritime geography · Hormuz to Bab el-Mandeb
Ships through the enclosure
AIS-reported positions above a geographic reference plane. Crossing counts are separate observations—not the number of ships currently visible.
Yemen and Bab el-Mandeb use the same coastline, land elevation and underwater relief sources as Hormuz. Vessel positions and crossing counts currently cover Hormuz only; no live Bab el-Mandeb ship feed is connected. Empty areas are not evidence of absent traffic.

Hormuz daily crossings
hormuz.now AIS-visible crossings: inbound, outbound and total. Latest day may be incomplete. IMF PortWatch is shown separately where available; different counting methods must not be merged.

hormuz.now open data supplies positions, crossing counts, the counting gate and sampled tracks under CC BY 4.0. Snapshot refresh is approximately 20 seconds; crossing totals refresh approximately once per minute. Cached data remains visible on failure, with its age disclosed. No position is extrapolated.
IMF PortWatch provides the separately identified historical daily series. AIS gaps, spoofing and GPS interference can affect coverage. Tracks connect sampled reports and are not proof of the route taken between them. Country outlines use Natural Earth 1:10m reference geometry, not navigational charts.
